Yashodhara Patil faced a lots of difficulty when she had to manage her daughter’s interests by taking her to academies after school. Being an HR professional and working full day at office, she was always on the run to manage the activities of her child. She knows the pain of parents who keep on running and seeking balance among work, home and the best care of their kids. That’s why, she decided to bring all the academies at one platform- Kidzopedia. She dreams of connecting parents with this platform so that they don’t have to run all day to find and place their kids in the academies of their interests.
There’s much more that Yashodhara wants to give to the parents with the help of technology and Kidzopedia. What are her dreams as the Co-founder of Kidzopedia and how she plans to realize them? Let’s know from her.
Ans. Kidzopedia.in with the tagline, Explore the world outside of school, is the largest Discovery Platform for Kids. It will go live in few days now. The company serves as a marketplace for parents to find after-school tutors, workshops and many programmes for their children. Here we bring all the academies/institutions under one umbrella. It will connect parents with academies and vice versa. Kidzopedia acts as a recommendation and booking portal with a two-way verification process. We match the parents’ requirements to the right academy using technology and human interaction. This will help parents search the activities around their vicinity and then they can engage their kids accordingly. This platform will help parents search for all institutions and academies with related activities available. They can register and enroll using this website. Parents will get alerts on regular basis for activities along with batch timings and discounts available if they refer others. Kidzopedia will also provide flexibility to interact with child nutritionists and psychologists to achieve overall development of theirs kids. Moreover my next target will be to provide transport facility to kids where parents want to enroll their kids. This will be helpful for parents who, due to their nature of work or shift timings, are not able to enroll for the activities of their kid’s choice.
Q. What was the thought behind creating such a vast platform for kids and their parents?
Ans. Millions of parents struggle each year to balance their career and childcare. Fortunately, some options exist but they are not sufficient for solving the problems. Parents need a solution that satisfies their employer as well as take good care of their child’s health, interest, entertainment, hobby, fashion etc. The first and foremost concern for parents is always their children’s well-being. I, along with the Kidzopedia team, have come up with an outstanding offering to meet their needs in a unique way by leveraging technology.
Q. Why do you care so much about this issue?
Ans. I myself have faced this challenge when I enrolled my daughter for a skating class. I used to rush back from office to home before 5 PM then pick her up and drop her in the class; wait for an hour for her class to get over to pick her up again. The academy was far from my home. So I tied up with a school in my area and they opened a skating rink. From there, this thought came to my mind to help other parents who feel the same pain as I did. This is the reason, I thought to create such platform where parents can get connected directly with academies and based on sizable amount of parents queries, it will give opportunity to open an academy based on the requirement in their area too. I got very positive response from research and market survey and felt an urgent need for this concept to come into being.
Q. What challenges do you face in running your company/ organization?
Ans. In running a business, you encounter a series of ups and downs. From initial success to losses and other challenges, these things are all part of the business process. Same happened to me when I started Kidzopedia as it is related to B2B and B2C. However, when you believe that everything can be done, everything is possible. Simply believe in yourself.
Q. Were their certain specific challenges due to your being a woman? How did you overcome these challenges?
Ans. Being a working mother has its own set of hurdles. From scheduling nightmares to extreme tiredness as well as working mother guilt and to be continuously on phone on weekends/odd hours coordinating with multiple vendors is the biggest challenge. Me and my family have to put much efforts to get to spend time with our daughter.
Q. Did you get support from your family members?
Ans. Yes, my family and husband are very supportive. Without their guidance and motivation, I would have never had the courage to overcome the adversities that I have faced. I am so thankful that Vijay turned out to be a fantastic husband and dad and I thank God every day for this.
Q. Would you like to share something about your studies and earlier career?
Ans. I have done my graduation from Delhi University and MBA in HR from Symbiosis, Pune. I have almost 6 years of corporate experience. When my daughter was 4 years old, I changed my career track and became an entrepreneur. I am into multiple businesses now. I floated my own Placement agency which helps in connecting employers with employee. Apart from this, I also help in providing franchisee of bigger brands. Simultaneously, I am working on my new company, Kidzopedia.
Q. When have you been most satisfied in your life?
Ans. When vendors showed their interest in my venture (Kidzopedia) and asked to get associated with it and when parents felt that this concept was amazing which will help them to compare and explore more options for their kids.
Q. What is that one habit of yours that you think has helped you a lot in becoming a success?
Ans. I wake up every morning and think to myself, “How far can I push my company forward in the next 24 hours.” Success is not only about how much money you make, it is also about the difference you make in people’s lives.
Q. What advice do you want to give to other women?
Ans. BE HAPPY. BE BRIGHT. BE YOU.
I am so happy to share my experiences. There are different kinds of talents in every woman and they deserve a lot of appreciation. It is never too late to start something and every woman has the right to peek out through the window of her dreams. Let’s help and support one another.
Q. What is that one sentence, word or quote that describes you the best?
Ans. I have one talent that I just don’t quit.
Q. How can people contact you?
Ans. They can send me email at email@example.com or call me at +91 9873637887
